Dark Entries plunge deep into the archives yet again, this time tackling the immense discography of New Jersey-based DIY experimental cassette duo Smersh. Cassette Pets has been carefully compiled from a range of cassettes spanning between 1981 and 1994 and shows the duo’s dominant brew of machine-led experimental proto-techno pieces. Each carrying a driving pulse, the tracks move from the fuzzed-out electronics of ‘Judy Mach 7’ to the bouncy EBM styled ‘The Fuse Burns’. Remastered from the original tapes, Cassette Pets retains the graininess of the originals without sacrificing sound quality.
