Following up utopian visions in minimal techno with 2019’s New Atlantis (released under his Efdemin moniker) Phillip Sollmann steps out from behind the curtain to pursue the further reaches of his musical philosophy. Monophonie, released on Ostgut Ton sun-label A-Ton, aims to weave the disparate strands of utopian music by reviving the research of 19th century physicist and philosopher Hermann von Helmholtz, the microtonal homemade instruments of Harry Partch and the metal sound sculptures of Harry Bertoia. Across the nine tracks of Monophonie, Sollmann exercises a steadfast dedication to the minimal and purely rhythmic in his on-going search for solidarity.
