One of the UK’s brightest minds in contemporary club music returns with another marvellous disc of off-kilter bass on Don’t Be Afraid. Ikonika’s been a legacy artist since well before her 2017 Hyperdub breakthrough Distractions, and the Bodies 12” documents a step further in her ongoing innovation. This time around, heavy emphasis on body movement informs the fluid synth swells of ‘Your Body’, while electro-influenced bass and pummeling rhythms grinds out the softer grooves of ‘Nobody’ and ‘What Kinda Pain Are We Talking About’. ‘Bodied (Roller Mix)’ brings together these elements of her sound world into an explosive cornucopia of dancefloor finesse.
