One of British club music’s leading lights rounds off a banner year with this drop as part of Don’t Be Afraid’s dubs series. Following her genre-bending Distractions LP for Hyperdub, Ikonika has struck while the iron’s hot on this one. ‘Oral Suspension’ is a club track in a holistic sense, with the dancefloor influences coming thick and fast. Midwest techno, grime, trap, Jersey and much more are all invoked, with the beat never quite settling clearly into any of these styles. The effect is most akin to the club dubs of Jam City’s Classical Curves. For anyone wanting something a little more straight-laced, Big Strick’s funky house remix is the one for you.
