Polish clarinet innovator Wacław Zimpel (of Zimpel/Ziołek, Saagara, and more ambitious configurations on Krakow’s Instant Classic label) joins forces with UK synth mastermind James Holden for a striking mini-album of krautrock-kosmische infusions and instantaneous, lo-fi psychedelia. Spread across four endurance-soaked tracks, Long Weekend EP is what happens when two fascinating talents convene for only a few days, bonding over a shared love of the hypnotic (with occasional input from Zimpel’s co-conspirator Jakub Ziołek, aka Start Rzeka). Circular synth rhythms unfold and envelop, a beatific clarinet dancing astride the din all the while.
