Having stood the test of time, saxophonist Chris Bowden’s highly influential debut album from 1996, ‘Time Capsule’, is rereleased on Soul Jazz. Freely mixing electronic and jazz genres, Bowden created a seminal work that went on to inspire a generation of young producers and musicians. With rich string sections manipulated to provide rhythmic structures and powerful woodwind episodes, Bowden’s tribute to both jazz and electronic music provides an optimistic route into the heart of both genres. Perhaps best summarised by the juxtaposition between the vocal-centric ‘Angels Fall’ and the bebop energies of ‘Mothers Too’.
