Zero 7’s debut LP Simple Things gets a vinyl reissue courtesy of New State. When this record first emerged in 2001, its mixture of acid-jazz, neo-soul and lounge sounds struck a chord with a public that was already consuming vast quantities of Air and Lemon Jelly. Zero 7’s trick was that their knack for songwriting abilities outshone that of their contemporaries. Cuts like ‘Distractions’ and opener ‘I Have Seen’ have a great Serge Gainsbourg flavour. This record is also notable for being one of the first public outings for Sia - she sings on ‘Distractions’ and ‘Destiny’. Mozez and Sophie Barker also feature.
