With a four-decade-old reputation for the divisive and a new record whose title translates as “a pile of shit and a shattered piano”, German troublemakers F.S.K. show no signs of getting soft in their old age. Favourites of the late John Peel, the group’s latest work was developed for Berlin’s prestigious Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Containing one track that clocks just under 43 minutes, Ein Haufen Scheiss und ein zertrummertes Klavier takes in everything from Einstuerzende Neubauten-esque proto-industrialism, post-punk in lieu of The Fall and experimentalism from the musique concrete school. While motifs come and go - particularly one propulsive drum track that appears in various guises - the piece as a whole is richly rewarding.
