Long-awaited re-issue of the dream collaboration between US avant-garde filmmaker Tony Conrad and German Krautrock band Faust, courtesy of San Francisco reissue label Superior Viaduct. While Tony Conrad, of his day member of La Monte Young’s experimental drone group The Dream Syndicate, was well-known for his extensive live performances which had no clear beginning or ends, even Faust’s minimalistic psychedelic excursions seemed wild in comparison. Both 27 minute pieces were conceived during their three recording days in rural Germany after Conrad had followed an invitation from the group’s producer Uwe Nettelbeck, and then released in 1973. Outside the Dream Syndicate marries the tonic of Conrad’s violin with Werner Diermaier's repetitive drum beat and Jean-Hervé Peron's no-frills bassline, introducing the drone element of continuity to great hypnotic effects.
