Old school beats from Sacramento-based Dibiase, no doubt the result of some serious crate digging. But while it draws from countless sources and genres, this collection’s cohesiveness is one of its great strengths. The beats are uncluttered – they hone in on a great melodic or textural component and let it shine. ‘B4UGo’ is an uplifting cut and paste job, while the fuzzy synth line in ‘Grungedout’ gives it a rugged, raw quality. ‘Sweethart’ more than lives up to its name, built around a mellow trumpet line. Endlessly chill, Dibiase seems to have been intent on pressing California’s endless blue skies to wax.
