Hip-hop producer Ahwlee drops his new instrumental collection VII. While there are certainly enough head-nodding grooves here to mean that VII warrants emerging on the Fat Beats Records imprint, this is also a sprightly and rather beautiful set. Ahwlee is equally comfortable juggling jazzy keys over MPC drums as he is whipping up something chic enough to invoke mid-Century French chansons. If MNDSGN ditched all the other stuff and focussed solely on beatmaking you sense he might end up creating something like VII.
