Loom makes a welcome return to Mr Mitch’s Gobstopper Records, following his debut Grade EP with more future-facing grime abstractions on European Heartache. The release represents a clash of textures, equal parts otherworldly, introspective melody and steely drum mechanics. The fanciful notes on opener ‘Ultraviolet Love Scene’ lifts us to astral planes before sub-bass brutality takes over on ‘Fractured Light’. ‘Nylon’ puts the gameboy textures into overdrive with its busy array of synth globs all fighting for attention, whilst ‘Tracksuit’ slips into a more subdued mood before unleashing those all-important military-drilled claps.
