London producer Loom debuts on Mr. Mitch’s Gobstopper Records with a style-defining EP. His contemporary grime sound fits in well with the lineage of recent producers such as Logos and label mate Dark0, yet seems to put more emphasis on melodies. The sine-tone-like lead of ‘Rain Falls Hard Here’ for example is reminiscent of classical preludes, and ‘Fukushima’ is dominated by an equally salient synth melody. ‘Grade’ squeezes a spoken word sample between fragmented percussion and deep sub-bass, and highlights Loom’s cold, spacious production style.
