Following on from the exceptional breakthrough 12” ‘I Ain’t Gonna Be The First To Cry’, the much-hyped Brooklyn based duo of Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance, aka Bob Moses, arrive with their debut long-player for Domino. Despite clear references to late eighties synth pop and the nascent trip-hop of early Massive Attack, there is nothing nostalgic or kitsch about Bob Moses’ brand of vocal oriented deep house. From the stuttering otherworldly vocals of ‘Far From The Tree’ to the ‘Teardrop’-meets-Chris Isaac of fan favourite ‘All I Want’ and the impossibly deep and rich production of closer ‘Grace’, Howie and Vallance have struck on a truly unique and contemporary sound.
