Drew Daniel, one half of experimental electronic duo Matmos breaks his 10-year silence from his solo side product The Soft Pink Truth with new LP Why Do the Heathen Rage? on Thrill Jockey Records. Following the same concept as the 2004 release Do You Want New Wave, Daniel produces a series of dance floor focused covers, this time centring in on the catchy riffs of black metal tracks. Sarcófago’s savage ‘Ready To Fuck’ gets reconfigured with a reverberant, acid tinged bass line and soulful vocals, rending it barely recognisable from the original whilst the cover of Venom’s ‘Black Metal’ retains some of the scathing essence of the original albeit through a screeching electronic processor.
