Friendly Bacteria is crate-digger and cartoonist Mr. Scruff's fourth album to date in his decades spanning career, and the third to be released on seminal label Ninja Tune. Friendly Bacteria sees a shift away from Scruff's usual whimsical sample based style, onto a more sparse, bass heavy, and vocal reliant sound. It's a significant change, but an effective one. Scruff's hand crafted beats are as deft and accomplished as his sample based work, and vocalist Dennis Jones -who sings on four songs here - is a real revelation.
