Moritz von Oswald has returned with a new solo album Silencio, a deep meditation on the dialogue between vocal and synthesised sound from the outright legendary producer and half of the indelible Basic Channel/Maurizio/Rhythm & Sound duo with Mark Ernestus.

In many ways Silencio can be seen as a return to the very roots of those projects with Moritz laying down the formative compositions on classic synthesisers, such as the EMS VCS3 & AKS, Prophet V, Oberheim 4-Voice and the Moog Model 15. These recordings were then transcribed and performed by the 16-voice Berlin choir, Vocalconsort in Ölberg church in the city’s Kreuzberg district, only few metres down the road from where Basic Channel founded Dubplates & Mastering and Ernestus' his longrunning Hard Wax institution.

The true alchemy of Silencio arrives at the point where the two processes meet, with one not simply a duplication of the other but a means to sonically interrogate the tonal capacities of each medium. The golden moments throughout are where vibrations created by vocal chords and those by amplified synthesiser sine tones are so closely linked they can no longer be told apart.
