With the second instalment of his HYbr:ID series, Alva Noto continues his mission merging sound and science, as well as his collaborations with dance choreographer Richard Siegal. Their works have been in conversation for over a decade, with Vol. II scoring Siegal’s Ectopia performance where dancers slip and rotate across a wax-flooded room. Alva Noto translates these movements into tense, crackling soundscapes exploring elasticity and 4D space: ‘Environment’ resonates with specks of dust and pinpricks of light, ‘Quarks Minus’ maps microscopic interactions in cavernous settings, and the plosive pulses of ‘Field 1’ form scattered rhythms like particle physics dub.
