The German electronic duo Mouse On Mars recorded a seemingly forgotten ambient project for a public radio session in Finland just a few months before the release of their 1994 debut album. Airing just once, the piece, which encapsulated field recordings, synths, tape delays and a microphone placed just outside the studio to capture Helsinki’s bustling noise, among other gadgets, was meant to recreate the aural effect of a single neighbourhood stroll. Some 30 years later, Mouse On Mars finally revisits this piece, adding overdubs, and re-shaping some of the noise into a full album experience. Bilk kicks off a wonderfully reflective period for Mouse On Mars, as they promise another two LPs worth of older rarities dragged back into the light down the line.
