Kirk Degiorgio’s As One project is still evolving after 30 years, evident in vast and evocative melodies Catherine Siofra Prendergast brings to the (newly labelled) duo’s self titled album. AsOne² features patient tracks that never hold back from propulsive rhythms and extensive layers of sound: ‘Vermillion’ is tingling with icy shuffles, slippery microbeats, and low frequency zaps, while laying heavy on shimmering pads. The low rumbles and acid arpeggios of ‘Goodbye Mr Schulze’ take an ambient detour to the closing moments, rising to a scorching fever in the track’s reverberating space.
