Heavily percussive material is quite the understatement for Burnt Friedman's fourth solo album. Translated into English, the long player's title, 'Bokoboko', means uneven or hollow-sounding, two adjectives which do well to provide an insight into the type of sounds to expect. Friedman provides deeply primitive rhythms, instinctive and irregular in their structure and played out on a cacophony of percussive instruments. The pieces unravel in the most organic form, dancing with dynamic legs through tribalistic territory.
