On their third full length album, UK-based psychedelic jazz trio The Comet Is Coming dive head first into cosmic and transcendental themes with an intense energy. The title Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam describes these tracks well: dizzying, expansive, and genre-defying jazz excursions that rip through the fabric of spacetime. ‘CODE’ opens with heavy hitting dancehall-tinged beats, adding snarling bass and stuttering ecstatic saxophone into the entrancing mix. ‘TECHNICOLOUR’ ups the ante, a portal taking you from black and white to dazzling full colour, meanwhile feral saxophone rages above seas of stormy drums and electrifying synth textures on ‘ANGEL OF DARKNESS’.
