Following his debut LP for Whities, Rupert Clervaux cultivates a space of disparate intertextuality for the fourth chapter of his Zibaldone series. Life sprouts on ‘Simple Food For Our Simple Taste’ with rickety drums and beats driven far into the red, tearing like a knife into the disjointed thrum of the previous ‘Mutual Aid’. Vocal loops on ‘Chthonic ‘97’ and ‘Thylias Moss #2’ become syllabic static, hyphenating dirty, mechanic beats and percussive drones that lie in between. Clervaux’s long passages of technologically manipulated imbroglio and flourishes of classical instrumentation pass each other like trains, creating tension through their parallel motions.
