The debut album from North London experimenter Genghis Cohn hones in on his songwriting abilities, eked out through the tangled brambles of his dextrous fingerpicked guitar. Iron Day highlights Cohn's swaying baritone rumbles and croons in close, intimate, candid recordings, where he poesies dialogues and dilemma metered by the aesthetics of British folklore and its endless landscapes. Reedy undertones trickle beneath the extravagant twists of dancing violin on the title track, while emphatically buzzing strings usher in dramatic percussion and dissonant twangs and strums on ‘Broken Vessel’.
