In 2020 Jaga Jazzist returned to Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder for Pyramid, a set of long form explorations through jazz, prog, disco, post-rock and more. On Pyramid Remix, the pieces are taken apart, often allowing individual motifs, enshrouded in the whorl of sound, to come to the fore: take Petter Eldh’s remix of ‘The Shrine’, named after Fela Kuti’s Lagos venue, where the subtler harmony under explosive synth strings of the original is exposed, or Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas’ take on ‘Apex’, which pulls out the track’s inner disco and lays it bare. Conversely, there is always room for additive, expressive chaos here, epitomised on Ian Chang’s take on ‘The Shrine’ and Paul Bender’s Tomita.
