In 2012 when Jaga’s main songwriter, Lars Horntveth relocated from Norway to the sunnier but less welcoming climes of Los Angeles, he was inspired by the vastness of the sky above him and the seemingly endless blur of illuminated streaks that surrounded the highways around him. These ideas began to form compositions which were then advanced into to fully formed songs when members of his 8-piece band joined him in California for brief periods. Once these blueprints were crafted, Horntveth flew to Oslo to complete the LP in the professional studios he had built with his band. The result is Starfire, a 5-track opus built from cosmic idealism and compositional experimentalism. The band’s 20 year story sounds far from finished on this ambitious and incredibly rewarding full-length.
