Few avant-garde compositions come as cosy and domestic as Alvin Curran’s 1978 classic Fiori Chiari, Fiori Oscuri, a fact that Black Truffle have certainly encapsulated in the cover of this reissue. The 51-minute composition sees the legendary US composer finding a rhythmic perfection in the purring of a cat, the tinkering of a toy piano and the stumbled speech of children, which among light drones, amniotic bird song and snaking flute sections make for a strangely moving whole.
