DJ duo LNS and DJ Sotofett make a natural progression from their perfectly symbiotic run of 12” club bangers on Wania with a full-fledged double LP outing. Sputters comes as the triumphant result of two artists burnt-out on the status quo of dance music, and more specifically, the lack of interstitial explorations between electro and dub, two musical forces that have always dwelled in the background of their individual crafts. As LNS was poised to symbolically ditch electro by selling her trusty Roland TR-606, DJ Sotofett made a suggestion: why not simply thoroughly reinvent it?
To that end, the aptly titled ‘The 606’ wickedly subverts expectations by spinning an acidic tone into a delay-drenched braindance rhythm, an approach taken further into dub atmospherics by ‘Dúnn Dubbing’. Throughout the release, the duo drum up a forward-facing blend of familiar tech and cutting edge skills. This is where tracks like ‘Ziggurat’ and ‘Shim’ juxtapose pin-sharp, percussive menace with gossamer high end pads. While the LP is the precious child of two production visionaries, LNS and Sotofett make way for Wania comrade E-GZR to ride the modulators with ‘K.O.’
Besides offering an excellent sonic representation of its title, Sputters goes above and beyond in delivering adventurous electronic futurism.
