Gimmik, one of the many aliases for the musical output of Martin Haidinger, presents the double LP Cloudwalker on N5MD. Entirely written in the lockdown period between March and November 2020, it’s a return to the beat-led work for which he was known two decades earlier. His signature glacial melodies remain fully intact, as do the neat micro-edited drums which underpin them. Encompassing mournful ambient pieces, patchwork breakbeat and uptempo braindance numbers, Cloudwater is at its most stunning in its stillest moments. ‘Propylenglycol’ will be a highlight for the DJs, whereas the poignant beatless numbers may be the most enduring.
