The line between experimental drum n bass and experimental noise metal is often quite dramatic, but Nairobi duo Duma find a way to marry the two ends of the extreme music spectrum into an unholy union. Their self-titled debut is a face-pummelling masterpiece, and further evidence that Nyege Nyege Tapes are carrying out the infernal Lord’s work. Shards of serrated metal synthesisers carve up the blood-curdling tones of ‘Uganda with Sam’ while vocalist Martin Kanja shreds his vocal cords like a black metal hellcat in heat, as industrially tampered drum machines lumber incessantly over ‘Pembe 666’.
