✰ midi-flex 222 ✰ is a more current accompaniment to the ongoing volley of new Powell music that has begun to emerge this year. a mini-LP formed of 7 parts, it was recorded according to a collection of NON-sensical laws established under lockdown in April 2020. where ‘flash across the intervals’ and ‘multiply the sides’ [the pair of albums released concurrently in May] are schizoid in their promotion of disjunctions and abrupt about-turns, both between pieces and within them, midi-flex 222 progresses as a single flow or synthetic mass that inflates and deflates, contracts and expands, as it travels across 7 segmented parts and 23 min 38 sec of space-time. different states occur as the configuration unfolds: clusters of uplifting melodic distributions affirm; sweeps of paranoid synthetic strings negate. felt as a whole, the effect is of a plasmic journey whose coordinates and routes have been plotted by forces beyond; by the variable ebb and flow of the winds, by the dispersion of light, by the spread of an organism after it falls through the cracks. the record is the latest musical addition to a ƒolder, the project recently established by Oscar Powell, Michael Amstad and Marte Eknæs, and while it orients itself around processes that overlap with the first two musical volumes, it is perhaps stricter in focus, tunnelling ceaselessly towards a resolution that never actually occurs ➜ all at once. ↯ please note ↯ the LP is named after the ADDAC 222 device that served as an interface between actual and virtual systems.
