New Appliance is a typically idiosyncratic set of beats from the producer, one that clearly draws from the distinguished lineage of the LA beat scene but is also somewhat more mysterious and erstwhile than the likes of Thundercat, Flying Lotus et al. Indeed, the seasick drums and grainy atmospheres that crop up all over New Appliance are more immediately reminiscent of Shabazz Palaces.
