With a gaze usually fixed to the future and never to the past, Flowers of Evil stands out as a rare case the inverse. Based on Charles Baudelaire’s poem ‘Élévation’, Ciani sends her modular synth ever upwards, beyond the earth to the precipice of comprehension, skirting about atonality before snapping back to melody at a moment’s notice.
