The latest drop on Black Opal - vinyl offshoot of the excellent Opal Tapes - comes courtesy of former Napalm Death fellow Mick Harris. Anyone who’s heard Harris’ other work as Fret will have braced themselves for impact here, and if you haven’t yourself we suggest that you buckle up. The Salford Priors + Version EP centres on reworkings of Harris’ 2017 tune ‘Stuck In The Track At Salford Priors’. Harris’ new take on the track is just the sort of grinding industrial techno that keeps people coming back to Fret’s music. Remixes from Monster X and Stormfield are similarly ferocious, Fausten goes for a sort of dubbed-out Fade To Mind thing, and Scald Process rounds out the Salford Priors EP with a blend of techno beats and mournful chamber strings.
