The story of God’s Chorus is odd and short, yet lasts over 20 years. Writer, musician and amateur musicologist Jim Wilson was intrigued by the musicality nature, and so recorded the chirping of crickets at length. He then took one of his recordings, slowed it down, and placed it over the original. It passed through many hands and formats, from a 1994 cassette to an extended CD edition, from the subject of Tom Waits’ humble praises to a pseudo-religious online micro- phenomenon. Finally, it comes to vinyl, cementing its status as a bizarre gem of nature music.
