CUTS (Anthony Tombling Jr.) follows up some buzz-building EPs for Village Green with his first full-length record. Though one can see the through-line between the label’s usual contemporary classical/chamber music output and the sound of A Gradual Decline, this record is also a wee bit harsher than Village Green’s orchestral fare. Influences of experimental electronics and Icelandic ambient music are all over A Gradual Decline - a cut like ‘Shattering Through’, for instance, brings to mind some secret collaboration between bvdub and Nils Frahm.
