Midori Takada & Lafawndah join forces for Le Renard Bleu, featuring the first new music released by Midori Takada in nearly twenty years. Le Renard Bleu is an astonishing musical and cinematic collaboration between the two composers and filmmaker Partel Oliva, one that takes a cross-generational echo as ground zero for recovering a crucial myth for uncertain times: the blue fox. Needless to say if like us you had your world turned upside down by the reissue of Midori Takada's Through The Looking Glass, are a devotee of Lafawndah's Warp EP or the glacial tones of Iona Fortune, Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto's broken glass ambient or Coil's Triple Sun than Le Renard Bleu is going to leave you utterly speechless...

Le Renard Bleu originated from Midori Takada's preoccupation with the legend of the fox. A legend that says it appears in both ancient Senegalese and Japanese folktales as the trickster archetype; belonging both to the heavens and to the earth, the fox is the agent of chaotic good, shaking the world up when its energy has become stagnant. Above all else, the fox is famous for its cunning nature.

Using this as a platform to set sail from, Midori Takada constructed a vivid instrumental composition dramatizing the spirit animal’s journeys through waterphone, bells, marimba and various forms of drums, Lafawndah's response was composed in her inimitable mix of fairytale and undertow, using melodies and lyrics that set to capture a dialogue between her and the fox himself. Eventually, the duo met in Tokyo for a week of communing with the material at Avaco Creative Studios, where new elements were composed on site, created in partnership with KENZO.

To experience the music that Midori Takada & Lafawndah have crafted is one of the most life-affirming journeys you are going to venture on in 2018, a meeting of minds so well matched that to experience it is truly to be a part of something so special that it's hard to step back and unweave yourself from its evergreen ceremony of succinct patterns.
