There were times in the long years since 2011’s Eye Contact when we wondered if that LP might be the last thing we heard from this fabulous band. Fortunately it appears that the NYC post-punks still have plenty of juice left in them. Kazuashita may rank as the downright prettiest thing that Gang Gang Dance have ever set to tape - it’s a record full of dreamy synth textures, highly melodic basslines and swooning vocals. Tracks like ‘Lotus’ and ‘Salve On The Sorrow’ are gorgeous, wistful things that recall Talk Talk and Animal Collective. That said, the group haven’t set aside their trademark bite in service of simply writing nice ditties - ‘Young Boy (Marika In Amerika)’, for instance, bristles with the energy of juke.
