For Saint Dymphna, New York band Gang Gang took the fractured experimentalism of previous releases and distilled their truly unique vision into a glorious pop whole. Bursting at the seams with ideas - polymath funk, noise-core, African-percussive ticks and much more are melted and contorted into a startlingly original album. Opening track 'Bebey' sets the irregular tone, structurally unusual, but with a giddy pop kick to it. 'First Communion' features driving electronic undulations and squalling noise undercutting sunny percussion and the cooing, ambiguous vocals of singer Lizzi Bougatsos. The track 'Princes', featuring British grime MC Tinchy Stryder, might be the biggest surprise, his sharp delivery and the band's eclectic backing sounding somehow like a perfectly natural fit.
