Brian Shimkovitz does it again. The Awesome Tapes From Africa head-honcho follows up the reissue of ‘Om’ Alec Khaoli’s outstanding Say You Love Me with another piece of South African goodness. While Thami Mdluli is well-known for his work in Taboo and CJB, his Professor Rhythm project also topped the charts in his homeland and played a pivotal role in the emergence of kwaito and South African house. Bafana Bafana - originally released in 1995 and named after the nickname for the South African national football team - contains eight tracks which mix drum machines, house organs, saxophones and soulful singing to highly groovy effect.
