Hit And Run (Kutmah, Teebs) drop a great EP of punk-rap from Portland duo Headlock. The touchstones of Gang Nativity read like a who’s-who of the contemporary rap leftfield. Clipping., Death Grips, Ratking and Shabazz Palaces all spring to mind as you make your way through the tracks here. ILLSLUR, the MC in question here, also sounds quite a bit like Zack De La Rocha, which is never a bad thing. His nasal whinney plays off the aggressive productions from TRICERATOPS. The combination of thrift-store samples, malfunctioning hardware and blown-out drum machines provides a fine foil for ILLSLUR’s half-angry, half-posi flows.
