Planet Mu knob-twiddler Tom Scholefield returns after a year-ish off with an EP of originals and remixes. Refresher is a release that lives up to its name and colourful cover art. The two originals here both contain great melodic energy, though this is deployed to different ends. ‘Cascada’ could conceivably take its cues from the eponymous pop-trance titans, so bright are its chords and tones. That said, Scholefield anchors it to a gigantic kick drum that keeps things resolutely techno-focussed. Meanwhile, ‘Species With Amnesia’ is reminiscent of Pantha Du Prince and features a multitude of pretty synths. At the back end of the EP we get two reworkings of tracks from the 2016 Konx Om Pax LP Caramel - µ-Ziq’s richly melodic take on the title track, and a blissful ambient edit of ‘Beatrice’s Visit’ by Huerco S.
