Having exerted a quiet but powerful influence over the contemporary indie landscape ever since the release of their eponymous debut LP in 2006, it’s unsurprising that Beach House now have a back catalogue extensive enough to scavenge for hidden gems. The earliest recording here, 2005’s ‘Rain in Numbers’, was actually the secret track on that first album, and the Coldplay’s-‘Clocks’-in-a-washing-machine vibe sets the scene nicely on this thorough rarities collection. The band call on iTunes sessions (‘White Moon’, ‘Norway’), Internet-only releases (‘I Do Not Care For the Winter Sun’, remastered here), covers (of Queen’s ‘Play the Game’) and several other sources for a release that works as a retrospective and also a neat mapping of the group’s progression over more than a decade together. Also contains the hitherto-unreleased ‘Chariot’ and ‘Baseball Diamond’.
