Baltimore indie pop greats Beach House resurfaced after a longer than usual absence with Once Twice Melody, their first double LP. Melody is coincidentally their first entirely self-produced release too, the product of a long journey towards becoming themselves. It is not a drastic departure from their signature practice, but a gentle retooling in how they arrive at it. The more relaxed sonics and lengthier tracklist allows them to take in shades from other subgenres, styles, and moods usually left off their radar and heroically mold them into Beach House. Whether they’re messing with minimal techno or or hushed folk, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally will always have that sound.
