Indie-dance veterans Saint Etienne return with their first full-length since 2012’s Words and Music By Saint Etienne. Home Counties is a sort of aural Ulysses for middle England - its sixteen songs describe a day lived in the ring of counties around London. Through this narrow prism, Saint Etienne deliver the sort of cleverly crafted alt-pop that they’ve built their house on all these years. Lead single ‘Heather’ is a prime example of this, with its pulsing synth-pop groove underpinning a Desperate-Housewives-goes-noir tale of suburban drama. The album features a host of production credits including Augustus (Kero Kero Bonito) and Carwyn Ellis (Edwyn Collins).
