Delia Gonzalez’s sophomore full-length for DFA is an album brimming with energy and vitality. Conceived as a soundtrack to an imaginary revisionist Western, the record manages to walk the line between the pomp that the genre is so well known for and the more contemplative or sombre tones of the revisionist. ‘Hidden Song’, for instance, takes the widescreen expansiveness of a band like The War on Drugs and weds it to a wiry groove more indebted to the classic DFA sound. Elsewhere the stormy ambiences of ‘Roulette’ and ‘In Through the Light’ evoke everyone from Jonny Greenwood to Bat For Lashes.
