Genres

A student of Olivier Messiaen and one of the foremost composers of post-war 20th Century, this release gathers together two of Luc Ferrari’s most important releases. His Heterozygote is a seminal work of tape-music - the manner in which it collected naturally-occurring sounds and combined them with techniques lifted from music concrete, stretched-tape loops and early studio trickery was at the cutting edge when it premiered in the early 1960s. There are obvious comparisons with John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen and György Ligeti, but the voracious approach to sound curation and willingness to repurpose the everyday for artistic ends is an attitude that shows its influence across the modern musical landscape.
