Portland-based sound artist and producer Kevin Palmer delivers the third outing of his Working Nights imprint under his Best Available Technology alias with a limited cassette release Brute & Blind. Here, Palmer sedates us with six pieces of crusted hypnogogia, shifting from woozy, muffled jazz chords on ‘Alkahest’ to the lulling dream states of ‘Salt’ and the chirping celestial planes of ‘Gold’. ‘Sultratur’ lets in a sunken dub shuffle, with the throbbing low-end whomp anchoring in the minute detailing up top, followed by the sparser, sonic evacuations of ‘Allegeist’, whilst ‘Sublunary Bodies’ reverts back to skewed, bled-out ambience to wrap up.
