One Handed Music have been responsible for some serious records in years past from the likes of Paul White, Bullion and Fulgeance. It’s safe to assume that this is their first release written in homage to a footballing icon. Zizou is the nickname given to mercurial soccer master Zinedine Zidane, he of the world cup final headbutt, the graceful balance, the effortless technique: a player from another planet. Scottish post-rockers Mogwai once wrote a soundtrack for a film devoted to Zizou, this time it is a prodigiously talented multi-instrumentalist from Leamington Spa, who makes a living writing music for TV and film and goes by the name, Bastien. Across 11 tracks he crafts an LP worthy of the Frenchman; all silken deep house, buttery 80s psych-soul, sample-heavy boom bap caressed by gossamer vocals. Zizou would be proud.
