Bleep favourite Erased Tapes continue to push boundaries of experimental electronica with the eagerly anticipated Howl from Rival Consoles. Following two hugely well received EP's in '14 and '15 Howl is the culmination of six years in the game as Rival Consoles, perfectly distilling his sounds into nine tracks that expertly walk the line between left-field house and free wheelin' electronica. Opener Howl is a shuffling house number with extra phase and filters applied giving it a heady blurry eyed feel that comes across like Clark making UKG. Ghosting starts off on a slowed down tip of reverb drenched woodblock drums and a tense, solemn autumnal atmosphere before breaking out into a kaleidoscopic roll. Afterglow picks manoeuvres down a more glitch indebted route while Pre goes fully floor focused. The second half of the LP follows suit with real time instrumentation blending with studio trickery and showcasing a fine array on influences boiled down into something very singular and with a vast appeal that encapsulate everyone from the Hyperdub heads to anyone with a penchant for the early Jega, Skam Mu cuts. Sterling stuff and well worth a listen.
